The demonstrations led to destruction of property before police were called to restore normalcy.

The president of the Student Council Kipng'eno Rono said that some lecturers have not been teaching students, prompting the demo.

"We have not been taught since the university opened this year yet we paid school fees, it's now four weeks to exams," he lamented.

He claimed that the lecturers were avoiding teaching because they have not been paid their dues since last year October.

"The management is giving unfulfilled promises, some lecturers have not been paid since October last year," he said.

He added: "It's not only in West Campus, but also other Moi University campuses."

He called on the Ministry of Education to come to the rescue of the institution.

"We will continue to demand for our rights, the government should come to our rescue," he said.

Efforts to talk to the management of the institution were futile as members of the press were denied access to the university premises by security officers.
