Kiambu County Youth Affairs CeC Michael Waikenda has said the Kiambu Biashara Fund will be increased from the current Sh300 million to one billion shillings in the next financial year.

The CeC said that the increase is meant to ensure more people benefit from the Fund.

Speaking at Thika Institute of Business Studies on Friday during the college's 2016 beauty pageant, Waikenda said over Sh120 million has been disbursed to youth, women and persons living with disabilities across the county this financial year.

He said that the Fund was established to supplement the Uwezo Fund and help marginalised groups get funds to start business ventures.

Waikenda said the Kiambu County government is committed to empower marginalised groups.

“The county government recognises the role of marginalised groups in development and will start programmes aimed at ensuring these groups are fully engaged,” said Waikenda.

Mr Waikenda encouraged marginalised groups to be active and seek the funds.

The CeC urged marginalised groups to seek the 30 per cent government tenders.

He said that out of the Sh11 billion allocated to Kiambu County in the current budget, Sh3 billion has been specifically set aside for marginalised groups that wish to do business with the county government.

He said that the 30 per cent tenders were set aside for marginalised groups and urged them advantage of the opportunity and apply for the tenders.

“We will continue to urge youth, women and persons with disabilities to do business with the government through tenders so that they can grow economically and take part in development,” said Waikenda.
