Residents of Wamaitho in Gatundu North have called upon the national government to establish a school in the area by purchasing them a land for the establishment.

The residents who held a peaceful demolition on Tuesday evening at Wamaitho shopping center noted that their children have to walk for long distances to reach schools drowned into the river as they crossed

Speaking from the scene, an irate resident from the area Moses Kague said that the community around was ready to build a school in the area if the government would allocate them land.

"We are tired of rescuing our children from rivers when they drown as they go to school. This year alone we have rescued three girls and a boy from the river. We have complained to the government to build us a small community school around us but nothing is coming forth. We are ready to build it ourselves if only the government gives us a land to construct the classes," said Kague.

"We also contribute to developments in the country by paying taxes and it is therefore not far fetched for us to demand for land for building a nearby school for our children. We have written letters to the D.O and area commissioner but we haven't received any response yet," Maritha Wambui a resident said.
