The Coalition for Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga has given teachers hope that the year 2016 might bear fruits to them.
Speaking on Friday at Nyabururu grounds during the burial of the fallen Nyabigena Principal Joseph Obare, Odinga accused the Jubilee government of misappropriating public funds that should be used to pay teachers.
“The government is not caring a Kenyan teacher but let us hope this year will not be like last year. Teachers are important people in our country and therefore we cannot afford to look down upon your demands, you deserve well remuneration and we stand with you all times,” Odinga told teachers while addressing the congregation.
He added: “If the government does not heed to your call, consider knocking it out in the next general election. We have seen Deputy President Ruto donating millions of shillings in fundraisers, the money they should use to pay teachers. This is public money.”
The CORD principal promised to sponsor education for one of the late Obare’s child.
“I will sponsor education for one of Obare’s children. He indeed left behind a young family that all of us should stand behind and support it.”
