A day after Deputy President William Ruto hosted a number of Gusii leaders in his Sugoi home in Eldoret, attendees have been accused of receiving bribes to support the new Jubilee Party.

A number of county residents took to Facebook to troll the leaders, accusing them of being compromised to support the government for their selfish interests.

However, Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i who was among the leaders who attended the meeting has dismissed the claims as ‘cheap propaganda' and urged residents to shun those spreading ‘unnecessary’ gossip- in an exclusive phone interview on Friday with this writer.

Tong’i said a host of issues were discussed with the DP, among them renovation of major roads in the region to ease transportation of agricultural produce and building of more village polytechnics to promote technical training.

“I am a church elder and I want to categorically say that the information trending in social media is cheap propaganda and unnecessary gossip that we should dismiss. We only discussed matters development, among them improving our infrastructure and technical schools,” he said.

He slammed the critics of the meeting and said it had yielded fruits since a number of major roads will be renovated before 2017 polls.

“Some people are just thinking of 2017 polls yet we have a duty to improve the livelihoods of our people by promoting basic services. The team secured a deal that will see government improve a number of roads which will be made public soon. We never went to get bribes and after all a person of such caliber (DP Ruto) cannot bribe us because he knows the consequences of corruption,” he added.
