CORD took the cup home in Malindi after nabbing the MP seat despite the election malpractices.
The winner, William Mtengo of The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) beat his opponent Philip Charo of Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) having gained 15,582 votes against 9,243 to win the seat.
Lucy Muhia, a student at Kenya Methodist University Nairobi, said she could easily read between the lines. Coming from Malindi Ms. Muhia said what Malindi people wanted is good communication to help them change their minds.
‘‘Being a communication student, I understood that Malindi people don’t just want parables or empty promises, they needed development communication,’’ she said.
‘‘I am not attacking the Jubilee party but I know for those who watched the campaigns, Jubilee was campaigning using promises. Tell me, how would people have believed in Jubilee yet they have other unfulfilled promises?’’ she asked.
‘‘According to Muhia, the ODM party was hitting the nail on the head during the campaigns and talked of development not in promising words but convincing words. I believe this might be the reason why the ODM communication director is a threat to many,’’ she said.
