There is need for stronger female role models to come out and nurture young women into leadership.
These were statements of former Premier Raila Odinga’s daughter, Winnie who decried the level of representation of women in the country’s leadership.
“We want to see many young women going for leadership positions. To achieve this the older female role models should mold them,”said Ms Odinga.
She pointed out her mother Ida Odinga and the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta as some of the role models who young women are looking to.
She decried the fact that the current young women generation is looking to video vixens and socialites as role models.
“We want to see many young women speaking up on many national issues. Politics has turned out to be a matter of how men are responding to power,” said Winnie.
While speaking during an interview with a local television station, Winnie urged women to create their own space and to agitate for their rights.
