An elderly woman is being held by Kikuyu Police after allegedly planting marijuana in her one acre farm in Thogoto, Kikuyu Sub County.

The woman was arrested after some members of the public tipped police officers after they suspected the plant that was growing was marijuana. Confirming the incident, Kikuyu OCPD Mr Mutune Maweu said that the woman was arrested after police confirmed that the plant was actually marijuana growing in her farm.

He said that some members of the public who live nearby suspected the plant and informed the police. The police boss said that the fight against bhang has been ongoing for a while with a lot of youths using the drug.

He said that the 65-year-old woman said that she had no idea that the plant that was growing was bhang.

Maweu revealed that the woman even said that she had not planted anything in her farm since she was expecting to build rental houses in the 1 acre farm.

He said the woman pleaded that she just thought that the plant growing was just ordinary weed. "The 1acre farm was planted bhang and according to the sources we have, this is not the first time. The woman is being held at the police station as investigations continue," said Maweu.

However the police boss applauded residents for their cooperation with the police and for reporting such illegal activities in the area.

He encouraged them to keep up the efforts to fight crime.
