Women across Nyamira County have now been called upon to ensure that they deny their husbands and children who are eligible to register as voters food if they haven’t registered in the ongoing mass registration.
Addressing the press on Tuesday at a Nyamira hotel, a group of women activists led by Lilian Gechanga said that the county so far has a low number of registered voters, yet there are many eligible voters who have not registered.
She said that if the men and eligible voters in the county are denied food, they will register as voters in just one day so that they can participate in the next general elections.
“We all want good leaders, and those who do not register as voters let us down hence the few who vote give us bad leaders," added Gechanga
Gechanga called upon other politicians from the area to ensure that they sensitise all residents to register in the ongoing exercise.
This comes barely a week after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission released a report that showed most of the eligible voters countrywide have not registered yet.
