Governor William Kabogo has said the construction of the multi-billion Kangoki semi-aerobic sanitary landfill in Thika, aimed at addressing the waste management menace in the county is almost complete.

Speaking when he inspected the ongoing works at the landfill on Wednesday, Kabogo said that once completed, the project will address waste management challenges facing the county.

Kabogo observed that waste management is a serious challenge facing the county adding that the modern waste recycling project will be of much help.

“The construction work at the Kangoki dumpsite is almost done and we expect to launch it before the end of 2016,” said Kabogo.

The governor said that they expect to launch the project before the end of the year. He noted that the impact of garbage on environment was being felt not only in Kiambu but across the world.

He said that there was need for the government to come up with mitigations that will ensure the environment is conserved.

Kabogo who was accompanied by county officials said his government will continue to partner with local and international stakeholders on key development projects.

The semi-aerobic sanitary project is being funded by the Kiambu government in partnership with the Swedish government, the Fukoka University in Japan and the UN-Habitat.

Last month, Kajiado governor David Nkedianye visited the landfill saying that his government will adopt a similar project to address waste management challenges in his county.
