Kisii County governor James Ongwae has said that young people in the county are the most vulnerable group to HIV infection.
Ongwae observed that young people, among them adolescents, were the worst hit population by new HIV pandemic infections in the county.
In his speech read by the County Health Services Minister Sarah Omache on Tuesday afternoon during the marking of this year's World Aids Day at Gusii Stadium, the governor expressed concern that the youth, who constitute not only majority of the county's but also the country's population face a threat from the scourge if the situation is not handled well.
Ongwae clarified that his government will continue allocating adequate resources towards the war against HIV/Aids and challenged other partners to continue supporting his administration to ensure the war against the virus is successfully won.
"In reference to this year's World Aids Day theme, getting to zero, my government will continue allocating enough resources towards the fight against HIV pandemic which is currently threatening lives of our young people, especially adolescents who are becoming highly vulnerable to the disease," said Ongwae.
