Nakuru County executive committee member for agriculture Purity Muritu has expressed confidence in the government’s efforts in ensuring dairy farming adopts the use of modern and up-to-date technology.

Speaking at the Dairy Training Institute in Naivasha at on Sunday during a farmers open day, the CeC exuded confidence that through education, doing away with old methods of farming and using productive breeds, the sector was destined for bigger things.

“Such activities (fun days) are recommendable because farmers meet and share ideas on different practices that will increase production,” she said, adding that Governor Kinuthia Mbugua is ready to work with investors who will help bring about the desired change.

Muritu further urged farmers to ensure production of quality products so as not to negatively affect their place at the international market.

“We all know that Naivasha is a hub of milk production because of the good and enabling climatic conditions. Do what is required from you as a farmer and I bet our position at the international markets will never be in question,” she noted.

Farmers urged the relevant authorities to put in more efforts in ensuring that the sector gets the allocated enough funds to facilitate acquisition of machines and equipment for them.

“Other than the state of roads, we need cooling plants and artificial insemination facilities that we can trust, and modern processing machines to make our work easier,” said Machira wa Kamau, chair, Naivasha Dairy Farmers Association.

He also encouraged other farmers to make use of the institution as an ingredient to improving their knowledge and skills as far as dairy farming was concerned.
