Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama has criticised the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) for politicising the teachers' strike now in its fourth week.
Arama said the opposition has taken the advantage of the strike to undermine the national government's effort in seeking a lasting solution to the stalemate.
“Cord has run out of ideas and is politicising the teachers' strike to gain political mileage,” said Arama.
His remarks come barely a day after Cord held a rally on Wednesday at Uhuru Park, Nairobi to show its solidarity with the teachers.
Speaking Wednesday in Nakuru town to media, the MP urged Cord to demonstrate commitment to challenges affecting Kenyans and stop dragging politics into the teachers' strike.
“Opposition should address the teachers' strike by negotiating with government and striking a lasting solution,” said the lawmaker.
He said the rally had no value to challenges facing teachers.
“The rally was intended to disrupt the efforts being undertaken by the government to address the teachers' problems,” Arama said.
“Cord is out to con Kenyans in readiness for the 2017 general election," added Arama.
He called on the opposition to work with government in fostering development and instead of accusing it.
