Kisumu County investors have been challenged not to construct houses next to roads.

Speaking to this writer on Thursday, Kisumu County house quality assurance and audit officer Ken Maina, called upon the area locals and investors not to construct their buildings next to roads without giving roads allowance of expansion.

He said following such piece of advice will save them from having their structures demolished when roads are to be expanded.

According to Maina building storey building along roads without surveying the ground is like throwing an investment, saying the owners stood high chances of loosing their investment through demolition of such structures.

Maina also called upon the county government to clearly put demarcations besides the roads which would possibilities be expanded, noting that that is very important as it would curb huge losses, investors face are prone to in such cases.

“To reduce high rate of house demolitions, we should survey our lands and invest properly in them by not constructing houses closer to places, especially where there is possibility of road expansions,” said Maina.

His colleague Joash Omwanda who is a civil engineer also welcome the sentiments asking locals to invest on proper grounds that don’t give them doubts.

Omwanda said it was so sad to demolish one's investment worth millions, adding that the only solution to this is for every individual to clearly see their land demarcations before investing.
