The Controller of Budget, Agnes Odiambo has condemned county governments and assembly officials for plundering public funds through unnecessary foreign trips.
Odhiambo said that its was saddening for county officials to approve huge amounts for foreign trips that she says wont bring any good to the people they represent.
"How can a county assembly approve a budget to send almost all members of county assembly to foreign countries in the name of going to learn how to improve the livelihoods of their electorate? That is totally absurd,"she said.
She clarified that she is not against county officials going abroad to get experience but said they should use reasonable amounts of money and also send few members to represent them as whole.
"I urge Kenyans to play an oversight role and ensure that their funds are used well and in case of misappropriation, take them to account and if they fail explain they should be recalled since they were not elected to embezzle public funds but to be the custodian," she added.
She was speaking during the fourth Annual Congress of Chairpersons of Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices at the Boma Inn Hotel in Eldoret on Thursday.
