A three-day free medical camp will be held at the Mataara Dispensary in Gatundu North courtesy of the Outreach Christian Church to benefit close to 650 residents.

The church has also donated a huge consignment of drugs to the facility in Mataara Sub-Location.

"The decision to donate the drugs to the dispensary and offer free medical treatment to area residents was the brainchild of one of our church founders, bishop Martin Kirimi and the event will be part of the church’s corporate social responsibility," Andrew Waweru, the church's chairman said.

Waweru who spoke on Monday morning at the dispensary during the launch, said besides the drugs and the free medical camp at the health centre, the church has also donated a diagnosis machine to the dispensary.

The exercise expected to cost the church Sh1.2 million will end on Wedesday October 7.

Waweru further revealed the plan of the church to build a maternity ward at the dispensary saying that Igegania Sub-District Hospital in the sub-county was too far from the area forcing expectant mothers to endure much suffering to reach the facility.

The church has also launched an ambitious project to house administration police officers attached to Mataara Police Post in order help boost security in the area.

Agnes Wairimu, a nurse at the dispensary said the aid will greatly save patients the trouble of having to travel long distances to either Igegania or Gatundu District Hospital for diagnosis.
