Panic gripped a homestead near Olympic Estate in Kibera on Thursday night after unknown people dumped a coffin at their gate.

The incident sent panic among the late Collins Onyango’s family as they sought help from the local administration and police to unravel the motive behind the bizarre incident.

Olympic sub-location Assistant Chief, George Okello said he was informed of the incident after a farmhand at the homestead said he had seen three men arrive at their gate at around midnight in a saloon car then offload something which he believed was the coffin before they sped off.

The administrator said when he arrived together with police officers, the family was too scared to open the casket but they proceeded to open it, only to discover there was nothing inside.

Interestingly, the coffin was brand new.

He said the clergy were called in and offered prayers before the coffin was set ablaze.

Since there was no body in the coffin to warrant police investigations, they ordered for kerosene and burnt it up after prayers.
