Deputy president William Ruto has announced the commencement of the construction of dual carriage roads in Eldoret, in an effort to decongest Eldoret town.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Tuesday after paying a courtesy call to Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago, Ruto said that the project has commenced, and that a whooping Sh30 billion will be pumped in.

“The project will be financed by Africa Development Bank at a cost of Sh30 billion and the roads will include Eldoret-Iten Road, Eldoret-Nairobi and Eldoret-Kitale, and a further Sh4 billion that will be used to build a by pass from Ngeria to Maili Tisa thus helping in decongesting the town, traffic jam in Eldoret town will be a thing of the past,” he said.

He also urged the contractors involved in the construction to ensure that they build roads that are up to standard, and also uphold the stipulated time frame.

“Some contractors are fond of delaying road construction projects at the expense of common mwananchi's money, I give a stern warning to such individuals that their days are numbered and they will soon be shown the door and given to the most competent individuals,” he added.
