Residents of Gilgil sub-county have been urged to turn out in large numbers and give their views on the proposed Financial Bill 2015/2016.

Speaking on Friday at Gilgil shopping centre during her monthly meet the people tour, area MCA Jane Wangui noted that ignoring the sessions was akin to ignoring the fundamental right of taking part in any democratic process.

“We live in a liberal and democratic society where everybody’s contribution is part of governance. I urge all of you to come out and share your ideas on this bill,” she said.

With the area being among the richest milk producing areas in the county, residents have over the years called for the setting up of a milk collection and processing plant to facilitate a reliable link between the farmer and the market.

“It is through such forums that your cry for help may be heard and who knows, the budgetary allocation committee can consider us in the next budget. If you shy away, who will get to know of your demands? she posed.

Wangui further called on security personnel to up their game especially in their night patrols saying that she had received numerous complaints about an upsurge of crime in the area.

“Our sub-county police and AP commanders should help us fight crime, we don’t want to be victims of crime while we have a very able security team,” she said.

After finalising forums in the city centre and Bahati Constituency, the Financial Bill sessions are expected to be held in Gilgil sub-county before heading to Naivasha, with residents expected to air their views.
