The Kisii County government has been challenged to develop policies and enact laws providing for budgetary allocations for the establishment of rescue centres for sexually abused persons.

The Director of the Future of Kenya Foundation, Cyprian Nyamwamu told the Kisii County government to ensure victims of sexual abuse receive proper treatment.

Speaking at a Kisii hotel during a three day training of community activists under the International Rescue Committee's Peace Initiative Kenya Project in Kisii town on Tuesday, Nyamwamu challenged the county and national governments to establish the centres and ensure justice prevails for the victims.

"Iam reminding the government that after the passing of the family protection law in parliament, it is now the responsibility of the state to secure lives of its citizens from threats of insecurity and violence,"stated Nyamwamu.

Nyamwamu observed that gender-based violance was a serious issue threatening families and that it was high time the government acted swiftly to contain the acts.

"Without families, there is no nation that can progress," he said.
