The wife of Kisii Governor Elizabeth Ongwae has said that she will expand vocational training across the county to equip the youth with self-reliance skills.
She was speaking on Monday at the Cultural Hall while issuing certificates to thirty youths who were graduating after successfully completing vocational training initiated Mrs Ongwae.
The program that is aimed at equipping Kisii youth with entrepreneurial knowledge that will help them carry out their business and deter them from engaging in retrogressive activities.
“The program offers short term training for school leavers who are idle at home, so that they can have knowledge on how to carry out businesses and other projects. This will crack idleness that leads the young people to venturing in evil activities,” she observed.
She said that the training offers an apprenticeship-like experience to enable trainees have wide range of experience to help them identify lucrative ventures. She says it has succeeded in enabling young people identify their areas of strength and capitalize on them to earn a living.
Mrs Ongwae said the program is supported by Digital Opportunity Kenya in conjunction with her own Non-governmental Organization called Soma Support.
“The youths will also be trained on ICT skills to enable them stay relevant and help others,” she added.
She appealed to the youth to take advantage of the initiative to acquire knowledge to enable them venture into self-employment.
