As the Health department in the government of Kisii puts measures to issue free mosquito nets this week, residents have been advised to make sure that they use them well.

Speaking to this writer on Sunday at Marani, are public health officer, North Thomas Oirere said most of the residents when given those nets they keep them instead  and continue using old ones.

He has advised residents to use new nets since they are treated and are effective than the old ones they have at home.

“Residents should realise that these new nets are well treated than the old ones that they are using; that is why as the Ministry we always give out new nets,” he said.

In addition, Oirere said that the old nets in many occasions are worn-out and contain holes that mosquitoes can access pass through.

He advised residents to discard old nets that already have holes in them saying they are no longer effective.

“A mosquito net with holes in it cannot shield you from mosquito bites mosquito bites. We discourage residents from using the worn-out nets as they are not effective,” he added.

The distribution is scheduled to begin on October 29 as with residents being advised to ensure they visit their respective centres to receive them.
