There was drama on Monday as a drunk police officer in uniform threatened to shoot mechanics based in a garage on Oginga Odinga Street in Nakuru town.

The officer, who was identified only as Noor, is stationed at Bondeni Police Station.

Sources say that he started insulting women selling spare parts before he was escorted out of the shop by one of the mechanics. He is said to have been assigned to guard Lions Primary School.

Mechanic Charles Serengwa, who is Noor’s friend, said he stashed a bottle of alcohol in his pocket and was sipping it during the incident.

“He pointed the gun at me and said he was going to pull the trigger and kill me,” Seregwa  said.

Officers who were called to disarm him also kept a distance to avoid being noticed by him since they feared he might shot them if he spotted them.

The officer kept waving his G3 rifle aimlessly, which made members of the public to run for their life as well.

The one-hour incident forced chief inspector Penninah Kamicha of Nakuru town with other AP officers to use special tactics to disarm the officer without causing any harm, before apologising later over the incident.

“We apologise for the shameful incident and promise that such incidence will never happen again,” Kamicha said.

“We also commend you for your timely action,” the police boss told members of the public.

The AP officers, however, had to cock their AK47 guns as the situation threatened to get out of hand.

The police officers were able to recover the rifle, which was taken to Central Police Station in Nakuru while Noor was booked at Bondeni Police Station.
