Nakuru County Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto has called on Kenyans to shift focus from conventional banks and explore services being offered by new entrants in the market.
“Majority of people are tied to the traditional banks. We hope that Kenyans can also embrace new banks which also provide efficient services to the people,” he said.
Speaking during the official opening of a Diamond Trust Bank branch in Nakuru industrial area on Friday, he challenged residents to develop an entrepreneurial culture.
“We also hope that the banking services can reach more people in the rural areas instead of concentrating on the urban areas only,” he added.
The Diamond Trust Bank is targeting 5,000 customers daily in their new branch.
Branch Manager Wycliffe Aduvaga said they were targeting the construction workers and mechanics in the area who often have to travel to bank their cash.
“We want to improve the customer care services here and ensure that this area which does not have any bank is well catered for,” he said.
