A family in Nyansiongo township in Borabu Constituency has called for a speedy inquiry into the mysterious death of their relative.

Peter Morumbe was allegedly whisked away from his house in the township by men who claimed to be police officers from Keroka Police Station before his mutilated body was recovered in the neighbouring Sotik Constituency.

On Wednesday, family members led by Zachary Ogato, accused Keroka police officers of allegedly derailing investigations and urged the government to give a satisfactory explanation of the death.

“The men who picked him from the compound introduced themselves as police officers and they were dressed officially. They were to interrogate him about what we really don’t know, and now he is dead. The government should desist from trickery and give us a good explanation,” he said.

According to the family, the Keroka police have failed to give them proper attention with the post mortem exercise at the Keroka Hospital allegedly being interfered with by anonymous people.

“Police officers from Keroka have been very unfriendly to us all this time. We are facing challenges even in carrying out a post mortem," he added.

However, speaking to Hivisasa.com, Keroka Deputy OCPD Aggrey Mulambo absolved the officers from the alleged murder but insisted that they are committed in unearthing the death.

“There is no single record showing that the deceased was arrested by our officers. I appeal to the family to allow investigations to be concluded without necessarily giving predetermined solutions,” he said.
