Riangabi Primary school headteacher, Naftal Begi, has called on parents and other education stakeholders to support the school to improve its education standards.
Speaking on Friday during education day in the school that is in Ibeno Ward, Nyaribari Chache Constituency, Mr Begi called on the alumni and well-wishers to support the school with examination papers for the pupils.
“There is usually poor turnout of Parents during meetings. My appeal is that they should be sensitised on the importance of attending school meetings. This is vital because it enables us deliberate on issues and challenges facing the school and the way forward. I also ask successful students who passed through this school to come for our help either financially, materially or morally,” he said.
The headteacher disclosed that poor infrastructural of the school posed great risk in spreading of infestations like jiggers. He called on the area MP and MCA to intervene and salvage the situation.
“Some of the classrooms our pupils use are wanting. They are temporal structures and have a lot of dust. This is likely to cause outbreak of jiggers. The situation also disturbs learners who find it not easy to concentrate in such environment. I therefore call on MP Richard Tong’i who earlier promised to construct a block of classroom and MCA Tom Ong’uti to intervene and salvage the situation,” he appealed.
According to the school head, the last time they got support of Sh200,000 from CDF kitty was in 2013. He said the school is in dire need of classrooms and sanitary houses and appealed to the government and kind-hearted persons to arbitrate in the situation.
Begi also underscored under-staffing in the institution and appealed for more staff to enable them deliver effectively to the pupils.
“I have 10 TSC employed teachers and two who are employed by PTA which is far below comparing to the number of pupils enrolling in our school. Currently, we have 580 pupils,” disclosed Begi.
However, Begi indicated determination and optimism of posting impressive results in the upcoming examinations regardless of hiccups they are undergoing.
“We cannot bow to challenges we face as a school, instead we are working hard to ensure we are taking our school to higher levels in educations standards. We are targeting a mean of 250 and above, up from mean of 246.26 that we registered in 2014,” he hoped.
Also present was Kisii County chief officer, Isaac Ombati, who was the chief guest in the ceremony. He challenged parents to support the school to post good results.
