Kikuyu MP Ichungwa Kimani has lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for heeding to Kikuyu residents' pleas over the National Youth Service (NYS) programme which is set to kick off soon.
Uhuru, according to the lawmaker, also assured the residents of his commitment to rehabilitate the Thogoto-Mutarakwa road which is in a dilapidated state.
Speaking in his office in Kikuyu town on Friday, Kimani said the roads under the national government in Kikuyu are in a very bad shape and the President assured them that the construction will start immediately under the Annuity Programme.
Kimani's remarks come after Uhuru toured Kikuyu region last week when he opened the Kilimo conference. He addressed residents of Kiamburi and Thogoto.
The MP said residents had been complaining of being left out of the NYS programme.
They had appealed to Uhuru through the Devolution ministry to recruit their children into the NYS programme to curb unemployment, crime and drug abuse among the youth.
Ichungwa termed Uhuru as a caring and good listener for heeding to the people’s grievances.
He further lauded the residents of Kikuyu and Kabete constituencies for turning out in large numbers to welcome the head of State in their home land.
He said he will work hand in hand with the national government to foster development in the region to fulfill his manifesto set during the 2013 election campaigns.
