More than 100 youth and women groups on Saturday morning received Sh26 million from Uwezo Fund in Juja constituency.
Juja MP Francis Munyua while disbursing the kitty cheques to the 102 groups said he was happy with the number of youths applying for the loans which are meant to transform their lives.
The MP, however, said that some groups that benefitted earlier had failed to use the funds as expected due to wrangles in their groups, and added that he has information that some shared the monies equally and then disbanded forgetting that they are supposed to repay them.
“Those that disbanded their groups after sharing the money for their personal gain will be blacklisted if they don’t pay in time. We don’t want to disappoint you when you need the funds later. Please use the funds as expected,” added Munyua.
He said some groups which received money as early as last year and yet have not implemented any projects.
He asked applicants who were disqualified due to various reasons have been asked to re-apply to ensure they are considered and prioritised in the next disbursement.
Meanwhile, Munyua said he was concerned about the less number of disabled and vulnerable persons applying for the funds.
He advised them to take advantage of the loans to improve their living standards.
