Kapseret MP, Oscar Sudi has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to sign into law the Higher Education Loans Bill to help students from poor background access to HELB loans for them to further their Education. Speaking after the launch of fertilizer plant at Ngeria on Friday.
Sudi said that the funds were mostly given to students from rich families instead of the less fortunate from poor backgrounds and the move by parliament to amend the bill will help the less fortunate pursue their children dreams.
"We have experienced many cases where students from rich and abled background are awarded loans at the expense of the less fortunate and with the presidents assenting the loan such cases will be a thing of the past and I urge students from poor backgrounds to apply for the loan," he said.
The bill that was sponsored by Kiharu MP, Irungu Kangata seeks the ammendment of the Higher Education Loans Board Act,the bill seeks to guarantee loans access to students from poor families, students under the new proposed bill are are required to swear affidavits before being granted an interest waiver and exempted from late payment penalties and that all regular governments sponsored undergraduate students in the universities shall upon application of the loan be entitled to an award unless the board is able to provide documentary evidence of students ability to pay fees with the loan.
