Speaking in Thika after a meeting with the sub-county heads where she represented the governor on Saturday, Gichohi said the number of eligible beneficiaries has been increasing and there was need to increase the kitty.

She also said that a 'Mashujaa Fund' was also in the pipeline to assist independence heroes whom she says now live in abject poverty in Kiambu and that are never given recognition despite the efforts during the struggle for Kenyan independence.

On bursary, she said that so far they had been able to allocate Sh157m to cater for students from poor background. She pointed out that priority was given to orphans since they were the most affected.

"Youth, women and persons living with disability have this year been allocated Sh100m along with last year's balance of Sh200m," she said.

She called upon residents to apply for their respective funds and enquire for any assistance from MCAs, ward managers and ward administrators.
