Kiambu MP Jude Njomo has launched a rehabilitation and mentorship program for Kiambu constituents recovering from alcohol abuse.
The program, which was graced by Kiambu Liquor Regulation Board Chairperson Gladys Chania according to the MP will help alcohol addicts restore their dignity in society.
The programme is also expected to help reduce crime as well as transform lives.
Njomo, who was speaking at Munyu Institute of Technology on Friday said 100 addicts will be trained at the institution on courses which will help them get decent jobs and earn a living.
He said the addicts will be trained on electrical and agricultural courses as they undergo a comprehensive rehabilitation program before undertaking an industrial attachment at selected institutions.
The MP warned those recovering to avoid being lured into alcohol again. He told them to focus on transforming their lives and support their families after the course.
Chania commended the MP for launching the program and promised to support it to ensure all alcohol addicts are rehabilitated and trained.
She told residents to support the addicts by identifying and enrolling them for rehabilitation.
“They should not be abandoned because every person deserves a second chance in life,” she said.
