Kiandutu Nyumba Kumi chairman Samuel Chege has urged residents to be vigilant to avert crime which he said is resurging in the slum.
Chege's call comes in the wake of increased cases of muggings and the murder of a night guard in the slum last week.
Speaking in Kiandutu on Wednesday, Chege said crime tends to increase in the area when the festive seasons are just around the corner.
"I call upon all of you to remain vigilant and on the lookout so that crime that has once again started to rear its ugly head can be defeated," the Nymba Kumi official said.
He said cooperation of residents in the Nyumba Kumi clusters had helped a lot to curb crime but said the residents had started to 'relax'.
"Criminals are very smart. Once they note that you are not putting much emphasis on this Nyumba Kumi initiative, they start taking the advantage," he said.
Chege also challenged the police to increase night patrols in the area to keep criminals at bay.
"Residents’ cooperation with the police has greatly improved but sometimes police let them down by not being there to respond to emergencies," he said.
