Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company is replacing old water meter boxes in Migosi Ward.
Kiwasco's Migosi coordinator Janet Apindi said the exercise which starts Thursday will last for two weeks in the city's vast estate.
Speaking at Kiwasco offices in Kisumu on Thursday, Apindi said most meter boxes in Migosi were too old and needed replacement.
She also said some needed maintenance and servicing as they were already faulty.
The water service provider had suffered losses in the last three months due to faulty meter boxes.
"For the last three months we have suffered a loss as a company owing to old and faulty meter boxes in selected parts of Kisumu. You find a situation where water moves through the pipes but the meter reading is stagnant and is the same,” she explained.
She said the old metallic meter boxes will be replaced with new plastic ones to prevent faultiness caused by rusting.
"We are replacing the metallic meter boxes with plastic ones for smooth running of the meter. As for the faulty ones, we have already started servicing and repairing them."
The exercise will target Manyatta, Nyalenda and Shauri Moyo areas. Emmanuel Abungu, a resident of Migosi ward, welcomed the move saying it would save residents from abnormal fluctuations of water bills.
