A suspected illicit brewer whose family had sued Nacada chairman John Mututho over the detention of his three children after the illicit brew crackdown has surrendered to the police.

Peter Gakumbi, 46, on Monday evening reported at Bahati police station saying he had fled to Uganda.

He said he had gone to seek refuge saying that his life was in danger after his house was burned down and property destroyed.

The suspected illicit brewer disappeared during the crackdown in Bahati constituency and his wife was apprehended and arraigned in a Nakuru court after the police allegedly found five litres of methanol in her possession.

Gakumbi’s house was torched and property worth millions of shillings destroyed during the crackdown that was led by area MP Kimani Ngunjiri and Nacada chairman John Mututho.

During the crackdown his children were detained and it took a family lawyer to file a suit before Resident Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku to seek an order to release three children detained at Ahlul Bayt children’s home to her aunt Milcah Kehuro.
