Lake View MCA Simon Wanango has criticised Nakuru County health department for giving residents of Kihoto and Karagita a 21 -day notice to close shallow boreholes.
Wanango says the move will complicate the water shortage being experienced in the areas.
“Giving Kihoto and Karagita residents 21 days notice to close their bore holes will not solve the water problem in these areas,” said the ward rep.
Speaking on Thursday after touring the affected areas, Wanango urged the county’s health department to seek alternative ways to address the water crisis in these regions.
“The health department should provide alternative ways to ensure that the residents in these areas are provided with water instead of giving them notices,” he said.
Last Friday, the county’s public health officer Samuel Kingori ordered the wells closed to prevent outbreak of waterborne diseases.
Wanango said it’s the responsibility of the county government to provide its residents with quality services such as provision of clean and affordable water.
He also expressed optimism that over 400 households in Kihoto will have access to clean and safe water by December.
“The launch of the water project by the World Bank funded Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project in Kihoto and Karagita will be ready by December. This will benefit over 400 households,” said Wanango .
He further urged the Naivasha Water and Sewerage Company managing director Joseph Theuri to help address the water shortage in the said areas.
