Molo residents now want the government to introduce castration as punishment for rape following increased cases of rape and defilement in the area.

The irate residents pointed out that the perpetrators were no longer being deterred by the "lenient" judgments that were being issued by the courts.

The claim comes two days after police in the area launched a manhunt for a man who is alleged to have been defiling his four and six-year-old nieces for the last six months.

Their mother who went to Saudi Arabia to look for employment left the children under his care.

“Majority of the rapists in the area are released on bond and start intimidating the victims. They also continue raping other children. The solution is to leave a permanent mark by castrating them and hence ensuring that they do not turn to any other child,” said Josephine Njeri who was present at the hospital.

Benson Waweru, a resident, pointed out that majority of the victims in the area live in constant fear of being attacked again. He said that apart from small girls, boys have also been sodomised.

“There are increased cases of sodomy in the area especially with high intake of illegal liquor. Several children are undergoing counseling sessions with some even opting not to get married because of the past abuse,” he added.

They were speaking outside Molo District hospital on Friday after visiting the two young girls who are admitted at the hospital.
