Muhoroni MP, Onyango Koyoo has protested the relocation of Kachok dumpsite in Kisumu to his constituency in Kibigori area nearly 30 kilometres from the city.
Koyoo said he was not consulted and no public participation was done in his constituency over the relocation.
He said he has sought for explanation from the city management but he is yet to receive any form of response.
“I just heard that land was found in my constituency and the relocation was to start. Nobody was consulted and it will not take place until my concerns are addressed,” he said.
The MP said he will not accept to put the lives of his people to danger since the toxic waste from the city will pollute his constituency even during the transportation.
Addressing the press in Kisumu on Monday at Kisumu Hotel, Koyoo also disputed the land deal that sealed the relocation plan of the dumpsite currently situated along Kisumu-Nairobi Highway.
He noted that the people of Muhoroni will be exposed to different ailments and wondered why environmental impact assessment was not done.
Koyoo further said the main river that cuts across his constituency will be prone to further pollution.
“Nyando River that runs through my constituency and is used by my constituents will be affected,” he said.
The plan to relocate the dumpsite is under the Kisumu Urban Project and efforts to have it relocated to a land along Kisumu-Bondo road hit a snag after locals protested.
