A murder suspect on Tuesday told the Nakuru High Court that he wanted to be read his charges nearly two years after he was first arraigned.
John Kanyara is alleged to have killed Joseph Mwangi on September 7, 2013 in Mirangine District in Nyandarua County after he suspected that the deceased was having an affair with his wife. He has been in custody since then.
Appearing before Justice Moureen Odero, Kanyara said that he needed to be read the charges he was facing.
“I would request the court to read for me my charges again,” he said
According to the police, Kanyara was drunk on the day he is said to have attacked the deceased using a sharp object.
Kanyara was arraigned before the court on September 11, 2013 and the court ordered a mental assessment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and samples of his blood taken to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital for further investigations before he could answer charges.
The court received a medical report from the provincial general hospital’s psychiatrist, Njau John on October 15, 2013 saying that Kanyara was of sound mind.
Kanyara appeared before the court on September 20, 2013 but denied the charges and was remanded.
Investigating Officer Rajab Juma from Mirangine police station told the court to deny the accused bail saying his life would be in danger.
The case will be mentioned on July 29 when a hearing date would be fixed.
