Nakuru  teacher was on Monday morning arraigned before Nakuru court for sexually assaulting and defiling his students.

Paul Gicheri, 52 allegedly defiled 15 years old student on the June, 15th at a high school in Nakuru County.

He is also accused of sexually assaulting students within the course of February and September last year.

According to the police, the Kiswahili teacher altered examination grades of the student’s sexual favors.

One of the sexually assaulted students who is in form three confessed to her parents, school principal and other teachers about the incident.

He was arrested on Friday evening by police in Njoro after the students protested against him and he was today arraigned in court to answer the charges.

State counsel prosecutor Mirtin Rabera said that the accused should not be released on bond until the complainants testifies.

“The accused is a teacher in the school and I would applied to the court to let him stay in custody until the complainants testify, the subjects appear vulnerable and if the accused is out then he will interfere with the evidence in court,” said Rabera.

Gicheri’s lawyer Karanja Mbugwa said that denying his clients a bail or bond would be denying his constitutional rights who are meant for every person in court.

“The counsel has no enough evidence to keep my client in custody and he is entitled to bond; moreover no affidavit in support of the claims, the court has powers to tell him to stay away from the complainants once he is out and in fact he is unlikely to return to the school until the case is finalized,” said Karanja

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Dorreen Mulekyo, he denied the charges and the Magistrate urged the state counsel to establish the whereabouts of the students since the court must also regard the rights of the accused.

“The state should establish the whereabouts s of the complainants and ascertain the matters of the complainants, the case will be mentioned on Tuesday,” she said.
