A man was killed and another sustained serious injuries after the motorcycle they were travelling in was involved in an accident at Nyamataro junction along the Kisii-Kisumu Highway.
According to Dan Makori, an eyewitness, a lorry was overtaking another vehicle when a head-on collision occurred with the motorcycle killing the passenger on the spot.
“The lorry’s driver failed to stop hitting the motorcycle just after it started overtaking,” he said.
The rider sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kisii Level Five hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
The lorry was ferrying goods from Kisii town heading to Kisumu, the driver fled immediately after the incident.
A highway traffic patrol police office who declined to be named because he is not authorized to speak to the press, said a manhunt has been launched for the driver.
Both vehicles were towed to Kisii Central police station while the body of the deceased was taken to Nyangena hospital mortuary.
