Kiambu government has seized three lorries ferrying 17,000 cartons of second generation spirits in Thika.

The Director of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Board in Kiambu Mr Michael Kang'ethe led the operation to recover the liquor in an operation that took six hours on Wednesday night at Industrial Area, Thika.

The board officials in the company of police and the county officials have been conducting raids day and night in the area destroying the unwanted alcoholic drinks.

Kang’ethe said most of the drinks found were labelled as the property of Kenya Breweries Limited. However, he noted that they were all counterfeits.

Following the recovery, Kiambu governor William Kabogo said there are many businesspersons and brewers who didn’t surrender their illegal drinks as agreed.

He led the team in raiding the Kang’oki dumpsite area where it is alleged that there are Chang’aa brewers hiding their drinks and other brewing items.

The governor refuted claims that he is in support of the brewers. However, he said he is against the damage of people’s property which was experienced in most cases during the raids.

“We as a county government embarked on the fight and we are still on the ground fighting to fulfil the President's calling as well as achieve a better generation in Kiambu County,” he said.
