Kisumu County human activists have challenged employers to pay their nannies well. Speaking on Tuesday at Tom Mboya Labour College, human activist Killen Omondi cited that most of the nannies were overworked and were paid little salary that did not match up to what they worked for.
“Let’s learn to respect our nannies as they are just humans like us, we should stop underpaying them and respect them. This is because underpaying them does not empower them economically,” noted the activist.
Kisumu county rural gender sociologist Florence Atera who was also in attendance during the meeting welcomed the sentiments of nannies misuse by the employers.
According to Atera, parents who complained about nannies mistreating their children should reconsider checking whether it is not because those nannies were receiving worse treatment at their workplace.
“We need to view the nannies as human beings, poor treatment brings about bad blood which in turn leads to poor work output," she said.
