Farmers from Riakemuma village in Kisii County are counting losses after heavy rains accompanied by hailstorms pounded the area, destroying banana crops.

Frolence Maobe, one of the farmers from the village recounts how the strong hailstorms fell all her giant banana plants Thursday night.

Speaking to this writer on Friday morning, Maobe lamented that the rains had subjected her to a lot of losses as she had invested heavily in the banana farming only to lose her investments to hailstorms which flattened her farm.

"I have been taken to square one after losing all my banana crops to hailstorm destruction, following heavy rains last night," Maobe said.

She said that having put all her hopes in the small farm which she had been earning her income from, she was now left with no option but to see her family of five experience food insecurity since sales from the bananas have been assisting her to provide food for her family.
