As a leader, what will you be remembered for by the people you are representing after your term expires, and more likely you are not voted in for another term?

This was the question posed by Nakuru deputy governor Joseph Ruto to leaders in the larger county during the official opening of a new technology slaughterhouse in Bahati constituency.

The veteran politician asked leaders to ensure all their campaign pledges were fulfilled in the most appealing manner possible saying that it was the first score card voters’ use during any electioneering period.

“The era of buying voters is long forgotten, today, your capacity in fulfilling your development agenda will give you a better hand above the rest,” he advised.

He took issue with materialistic leaders who joined politics for personal gains, saying that leadership was a commitment to represent the people regardless of their class in society, not an investment.

The deputy governor reiterated on their commitment in making the lives of the people of Nakuru better under devolution, arguing that being pioneers under such a structure, there were a lot of expectations from the people.

“We are supposed to pave way for the next governor and his deputy according to how the people of Nakuru will decide, we are trying as much as we can to fulfill all our pledges before our first term elapses,” he said.

The modern slaughterhouse in Biashara Ward is meant to offer better services to the people of Nakuru and its environs.
