Nyamira County Assembly Speaker has rubbished North Mugirango MP Mr Charles Geni’s remarks that he was hindering projects he intends to initiate in the constituency ahead of 2017 elections.
On Saturday, Geni had accused Mr Joash Nyamoko of inciting area residents to reject proposed projects in the constituency during public participation exercises, citing the proposal of a mega water project that was proposed to be installed at Matongo only to collapse after a section of residents protested as an example.
But in a quick rejoinder on Saturday, Nyamoko denied being involved in matters of the constituency and told the MP to desist from dragging his name to issues that were anonymous to him.
“I don’t deny that I hail from North Mugirango and had expressed an interest in parliamentary elections. But that doesn’t mean that I am determined to hinder development. The MP should stop dragging me in the issues that I don’t understand,” he said when hosting a section of youths from Nyamira County in his rural home at Nyamusi.
According to him, Geni should rise up and face the perceived rebellion from a section of area residents dissatisfied with his leadership.
“As a leader, you have to engage your people and listen to what they always have to say. For instance, there could be a reason why they want the water project moved from Matongo to Nyaramba but I don’t want to be involved,” he added.
Nyamoko urged all MPs from the county to work together with MCAs to foster development at grassroots.
“I want to appeal to all our MPs to work with our MCAs to foster rapid growth in rural areas. We are servants of the people and no one should sabotage development for the sake of our people,” he said.
Nyamoko contested the North Mugirango parliamentary seat and narrowly lost to Geni before he was elected Speaker of Nyamira County Assembly.
