Stakeholders have been challenged to enhance their efforts in the fight against HIV/Aids in Nyanza Region.
Addressing stakeholders from various departments on Friday, during a HIV stakeholder forum at Marani, Isaiah Onyango, a monitoring and evaluating officer at Wezesha Orphans and Venerable Children (OVC) urged stakeholders to put more effort in their campaigns against HIV in Nyanza.
“As stakeholders from various departments, we need to put more effort so that we can teach our people how to fight this disease because the infection rate has gone up,” said Onyango.
He also noted that the community should be educated on how to take care of people who had been infected with the disease without stigmatising them.
“We need to inform and teach the community how to take care of infected people. Teachers should also be educated on how to handle infected children in school,” added Onyango.
Onyango, urged youth to avoid engaging in premarital sex and challenged parents to discuss sex matters with their children, including causes and prevention of HIV/Aids in a bid to curb spread of the disease among the youth.
“Let us be free with our children and tell them about this disease. The more we keep quite the more things worsen,” said Onyango.
