Unlike most students who await their parents to give them money for their college fees, it is not so for  Joseph Too.

The Maseno University education student has taken to installing digital set top boxes to get his tuition fees.

Too said he learned the skill from his father who is a technician.

He is a specialist in installing satellite dishes, digital set top boxes and antennas.

Too charges Sh500 for a single installation, and on a good day, he can make three to four installations, which he says has sustained him a great deal, now that his parents are not able to meet all his needs let alone fees.

Through the initiative,  he has been able to support his siblings, too.

“This life is about survival. Today, your degree does not market you the way your skills will,” said a determined Too.

Most of his clients are students, though locals benefit from his services as well. Students are pleased with his cheap but reliable services due to his availability.

“Too is my friend and a hustler. I can always call him at any time of the night when my TV signal goes off. He is a gifted student in that his skills are not related to his varsity course,” said James Limo.

“I look forward to opening a workshop one day though I face numerous challenges. Some of my customers live far and I am a student so I have got to balance my studies and work since most of the time I am in class. Marketing is also a problem in that I don’t have a central place where customers can seek my services. in most cases, I market my services through word of mouth,” said Too.
