Uasin Gishu bodaboda Saccos' officials have appealed to the Uasin Gishu government to help them consolidate six bodaboda Saccos into a large Sacco to further enable members improve their livelihoods.
The officials who made the call included the North Rift Taxis and Bodaboda Association chariman, Richard Mukhobero, Turbo Bodaboda Sacco Chairman Livingstone Wafula and Kesses Boda Boda Sacco chairman Oscar Shikanda.
Speaking on Monday, they said that six bodaboda Saccos are divisive and would hinder them from lobbying for the implementation of a joint resolution by members due to a longer decision making process.
“As Uasin Gishu County Bodaboda officials we were for the idea of having one formidable Sacco in Eldoret town. We were not given time to organise ourselves to form one Sacco of people we are conversant with. This would have been easier for us to scrutinise our members and cases of insecurity that have recently been witnessed would be a thing of the past" said Mukhobero.
"But at the end we were saddened by the minister of Trade, Philip Melly when he came up with the six Sacco’s without involving us, and due to that, cases of insecurity have really sky-rocketed since it is hard to identify members from other Saccos,” he added.
They, however, agreed that the idea of the Uasin Gishu government urging the Boda boda operators to join Saccos was brilliant saying it has brought order in the industry which in the past was a mess.
