A woman was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Kikuyu court after she was found guilty of stabbing her husband to death.

On July 2, 2015, Rachel Wairimu is said to have stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife after finding out that he had a second wife.

The prosecution had earlier brought two witnesses who testified before Chief Magistrate James Ogweno.

Faith Muia, a house-help in the accused's home said that on that fateful day, the late Daniel Muguga came home at around 8pm and he was drunk.

Muia claimed the deceased refused to be served food by his wife saying he had already eaten at his second wife's house. She narrated how the accused allegedly stabbed him three times in the chest after a heated argument.

She said the accused followed her threatening to kill everyone in the house.

"I rushed to the children's bedroom with his 6-year-old son and I locked it for our safety as I screamed for help," she said.

Margaret Wambui, who is their neighbour, said she heard screams and when they tried knocking, no one answered. She said they tried to break the door to gain entry into the house.

"We called the chief who came with two Administration Police officers. The man was bleeding profusely and on rushing him to hospital, he succumbed to his wounds," said Wambui.
