The Nakuru Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and Keroche Breweries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will see 11 youths from the county get delivery trucks.

The youths will use the trucks for distribution of Keroche products.

Nakuru KNCCI Chairman Julie Njuguna said the MoU is meant to empower youths and young entrepreneurs in the area. Each of the 11 sub-counties within Nakuru County will have one of its youth benefit.

Speaking during a tour of the Keroche factory by 30 youths from The Nakuru Young Entrepreneurs on Tuesday, Njuguna pointed out that the youth would not need title deeds or loans to get the trucks. Keroche will source the trucks from companies which sell them.

“Keroche leadership has agreed to go to automobile shops and they would act as guarantors to the youth. They (the youths) will only need to show commitment to the project,” said Njuguna.

Njuguna also pointed out that the youth in the area had expressed interest in building up their businesses but lack of capital often hindered them.

“Keroche is also ready to mentor entrepreneurs from all over the country who are willing to learn more about the business world,” he added.

The youths drawn from Nakuru welcomed the initiative saying it would ensure that they were given grounds to kick start their businesses.

“If we are able to get guidance and mentorship, we would be able to solve the issue of unemployment in the area,” said Kelvin Muthiani, one of the youths targeted by the deal.

At the same time, Njuguna said second generation liquor brewers should seek advice on how to manufacture legal liquor from Keroche breweries.

Njuguna said they had struck a partnership with the company seeking to mentor brewers who were interested in engaging in the proper liquor manufacture and distribution.
